It's arguable that netbooks have been somewhat eclipsed lately in the press by tablets and indeed ultrabooks, as well. But are they really lacking, or are people's priorities not the same as the initial target market for these mini-laptops?
Netbooks are, it's worth remembering, not as limited as tablets. In fact, they're sitting on specs that didn't look out of place in a laptop several years ago, and are perfectly capable of performing all sorts of tasks. Tablets, however, are not designed with capability in mind in the same way that a laptop, PC or, of course, a netbook is. Tried playing on a netbook? Works fine. Tablet? Not the same.

Despite rather high price, a dial-up of interfaces and extension possibilities of this netbook Asus Eee PC 1018P has only standard configuration.
On the left panel VGA output for connection to exterior monitor or a projector, port USB 2.0 and a slot for the locking safety (Kensington type), hindering device theft are available.
Here the ventilating grid through which hot air is blown out of case limits is also provided. By our estimations, the ventilating channel has turned out very small.

The first thing that is evident right after netbook extraction from its box is a thin case and high quality of used materials. The merit of new design is not only that it promotes creation of attractive appearance of a product; a thickness of a novelty was also considerably reduced – to 2,19 sm in the maximum point.
Making a netbook comparison, you will find, that stylish netbook ASUS EEE is reaally thin. In color gamma of the test netbook sample, representing a model in white color design, there is a combination with white, silvery (aluminum) and dark gray (almost black) colors, depending on color of this or that component.

Following modern lines, Asus engineers provided wide opportunities for this development in the field of mobile technologies. Besides Atheros AR8132 network controler, there is a built in WLAN unit Broadcom with support of the newest 802.11n protocol. Besides, the advanced Bluetooth 3.0 unit providing a high speed data interchange between computer and a mobile device is used. Eee PC 1018P, as well as its younger brother Asus 1015P, is equipped with aslot for a SIM card which is not used: it is not known, when there will be devices like 1018PM/1018BM with built in UMTS unit, and whether they will appear in general.
The slot for a SIM card doesn't find applications yet.

Asus company presented a new design leader of laptops family ЕЕЕ PC with a title Asus Eee PC 1018P. An aluminum case and optional port USB 3.0 are capable to attract even sceptics. The street price recommended by the vendor is rather high - €399, and so we asked a question: why were ASUS preferences restricted again to the glossy screen?
